Serena: 'It Always Feels Good To Come Here'
There are three tournaments where Serena Williams has lifted the trophy five times: Wimbledon, the Australian Open and the Sony Open Tennis. The Palm Beach Gardens resident feels at home in Miami and couldn’t be more excited to be back at Crandon Park.
“It feels great. For me it is a home tournament,” said Williams. “I live so close to here and it always feels good to come here. I have done pretty well here in the past and it's always so many great memories every time I step out on the court.”
Williams comes into the WTA Premier Mandatory tournament as the World No. 1, having replaced Victoria Azarenka on February 18 to become the oldest woman to hold the top spot.
“It feels good to be on top, especially after everything,” Williams said. “Working so hard and just really not expecting much, and especially this far in my career, it's exciting to be there again.”
The top seed will begin her quest for a sixth event title and first since 2008 when she takes on Flavia Pennetta in the third match on Stadium court Thursday afternoon.
