Davydenko Fights Back To Beat Blake

Former champion Nikolay Davydenko set a second-round clash with last week’s Indian Wells runner-up John Isner at the Sony Ericsson Open after beating American James Blake 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday in Miami.
The Russian, who triumphed at the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in 2008 (d. Nadal), broke serve five times from 13 opportunities to dismiss former World No. 4 Blake in just under two hours. He improved to an 8-6 match record on the season after beating Blake for the first time in eight attempts.
Former World No. 2 Tommy Haas claimed his fourth match win of the season as he defeated French qualifier Guillaume Rufin 6-4, 6-4 in one hour and 35 minutes. The 33-year-old German converted two of his 10 break points and won 82 per cent of points on first serve to set a second-round meeting with No. 25 seed Radek Stepanek.
Portugal’s Frederico Gil also advanced through the first-round, defeating Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci 6-3, 6-4 in 92 minutes. Meanwhile, Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov claimed his first main draw win in Miami by defeating Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan 6-2, 6-2.
Colombia’s Alejandro Falla will face World No. 4 and 2009 champion Andy Murray in the second round after beating Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin. Istomin was trailing 6-2, 2-1 when he was forced to retire. Meanwhile, World No. 2 Rafael Nadal learned that he will face Santiago Giraldo after the Colombian beat Spain’s Pablo Andujar 6-3, 6-2.
