Fourth seed Caroline Wozniacki put together a complete performance to oust five-time Miami champion Serena Williams 6-4, 6-4 in the Sony Ericsson Open quarter-finals Tuesday evening.

"Serena is a great champion and I have [so] much respect for her," Wozniacki said. "I thought I played a very good match out there. I'm very pleased about the way I was able to also close it out.

"I think I served well today. I think my first serve in particular was good. The first time I played against her, I had match points and lost 7-6 in the third, so I knew that I had to do something or I had to serve well to close the match out, because she wasn't going to give me anything."

Wozniacki won 74 per cent of her first serve points and converted three of her six break point opportunities. The Dane hit 12 winners to 13 unforced errors, closing out the clash on her first match point to claim victory in one hour and 35 minutes. She secured her first win in four meetings with the 10th-seeded American, avenging a semi-final loss at last year’s US Open.

"I think she definitely served the best she served in her career, and I actually expected her to do that," said Williams. "Last time we played, I played a lot better, and she knows in order to be able to hang out, she has to serve bigger. She did that today, but next time I'm going to be ready for that."

The 21 year old is aiming to lift her first trophy of the season. Wozniacki is through to the semi-finals at the WTA Premier Mandatory event for the first time, having been stopped in the final eight in 2009 and 2010.

For a place in the final, Wozniacki will take on second seed Maria Sharapova. The Russian cruised past No. 8 seed Li Na 6-3, 6-0.
