Milos Raonic has withdrawn from the Sony Ericsson Open with a right ankle sprain. The 26th-seeded Canadian was scheduled to face No. 4 Andy Murray of Britain on grandstand in the third match of the day.
Raonic, who had already won ATP World Tour singles titles this year at January’s Aircel Chennai Open in India (d. Tipsarevic) and the SAP Open in February at San Jose (d. Istomin), was coming off a 7-6 (7), 6-2 second round win against French qualifier Arnaud Clement.
The 21-year-old Raonic departs with a 17-3 record on the year. Murray, the 2009 champion, advances to the fourth round where he’ll meet the winner of Gilles Simon of France and Jurgen Melzer of Austria.
