Fans were treated to an exhibition hit between WTA No. 6 Jelena Jankovic and entertainment superstar Brandy Friday afternoon at the Sony Ericsson Open.

The Grammy Award winning singer considers tennis one of her hobbies and is friends with Serena Williams. Brandy displayed solid form on both sides of the racquet and took pleasure in playing with Jankovic, a former runner-up here. “I can’t believe I’m here! I enjoy watching tennis and also playing the sport, so it exciting hitting with Jelena. She’s a great player.”

Sporting a pink tennis outfit, Brandy showed a competitive spirit, interacting with the fans when she misplayed a shot. “That one was bad. I’ll get the next one… give me tips guys!” yelled Brandy at one point.

Though she deals with pressure in a daily-changing industry, the performer wasn’t 100 percent confident playing the Serbian in front of a crowded group of fans. “I was nervous. Thought I played terrible,” laughed the entertainer. “But Jelena was nice enough not to go smacking winners left and right, making me look bad. She was really friendly.”

Sweating from the hit, Brandy was ready for a hot dog and lemonade but not before she posed for photographs and signed autographs for thrilled fans.

Jankovic also enjoyed the opportunity to play with a celebrity like Brandy. Familiar with her work, she came off the court in high spirits. “It was a lot of fun. It was so nice to meet her,” smiled Jankovic. “I’m a big fan of Brandy’s, so I loved hitting with her.”

At tonight’s men’s match featuring Novak Djokovic, undefeated this season, and Denis Istomin, Brandy is slated to conduct the coin toss. On Saturday evening, she’ll open night session play by singing the National Anthem. It’s the type of experience the artist relishes. “Singing is my life… I enjoy every performance I give,” said Brandy.

“Tennis is my favorite sport so to sing in front of a crowd of packed tennis fans in Miami is going to be a great experience. I’m definitely looking forward to it.”
