Third seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Leander Paes continued their progress at the Sony Ericsson Open, prevailing against sixth seeds Michael Llodra and Nenad Zimonjic 6-3, 6-7(4), 10-7 in quarter-final action Wednesday in Miami.

Bhupathi and Paes both reached the final last year at this ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament, but stood on opposite sides of the net, with Paes and Lukas Dlouhy defeating Bhupathi and Max Mirnyi for the title.

The Indian veterans are playing together in Miami for the first time in 12 years, and made second-round exits in three straight visits from 1997-99. They reunited this season with a goal of completing a career Grand Slam at the Australian Open, but came up just short, losing to the Bryans in the final.

Bhupathi and Paes will next meet the unseeded pairing of Oliver Marach and Janko Tipsarevic, who knocked out No. 7 seeds Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi 6-4, 7-6(8).

The Austrian-Serbian pairing, teaming up for just the third time, will be looking for a third straight win over a seeded team. They ousted No. 1 duo and two-time Miami champions Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan in their second round match.

Reigning Wimbledon champions and No. 4 seeds Jurgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner earned their place in the semi-finals after coming back to defeat Israelis Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram 4-6, 6-4, 10-8.

They will meet second seeds Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor for a place in the final, after the Belarusian-Canadian duo finished strong in a 7-5, 6-0 win over No. 8 seeds Robert Lindstedt and Horia Tecau.

Mirnyi has claimed the Miami title four times with three different partners, most recently in 2009 with Ram, while Nestor won in 2002 with long-time partner Mark Knowles.

On the women's side the third-seeded doubles team of American Liezel Huber and Russian Nadia Petrova advanced to the semi-finals with a win over wild card team Sloane Stephens and Yanina Wickmayer. Huber and Petrova debuted their team in Charleston last year and went on to win the title, and this year reached the semi-finals of both Sydney and the Australian Open. The team plays the No. 8 seeded Spanish pair of Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez and Anabel Medina Garrigues, who ousted the No. 1 Gisela Dulko/Flavia Pennetta team in the quarter-finals.
